Mykonos is often known as the “party island,” and while that reputation certainly exists, I’ve always believed there is so much more to this beautiful island than how it has been portrayed. 

This is where Cali truly shines. 

The resort offers a refreshing and tranquil take on the island, blending luxury, style, and a laid-back atmosphere that attracts those seeking a more intimate, yet equally sophisticated escape. Few other resorts on the island, if any, can make this claim with the same authenticity.

The location of Cali is nothing short of perfect. Situated on a promontory that cascades down the hill toward the Aegean Sea and a private beach below, the resort offers panoramic views at every turn. A small road winds down from the reception area at the top, passing through a charming “village” of stone and whitewashed cube-like dwellings adorned with succulents and bougainvillea. And then, of course, there is the crown jewel: the pool. The grounds are impeccably maintained, seamlessly blending with the surrounding landscape, creating a truly idyllic environment.

I’ll never forget the first time I was golf-carted to my room. My jaw dropped in complete awe as I realized I would be spending the next three nights in a sanctuary – a Premium Pool Suite (with my own private pool) boasting breathtaking views over the iconic pool and the sea. The design was both stunning and functional (a rarity in stylish spaces), striking the perfect balance of sleek luxury and comfort. And I wasn’t just lucky with my room choice. During my two stays at Cali, I had the opportunity to see nearly every room, suite, and villa – all of which offer a sense of privacy, allowing guests to unwind in both style and serenity.

Tip #1: Be sure to wake up early at least once and watch the sunrise from your terrace. It’s a moment of pure Cali magic.

You cannot miss the sunrise but during your stay at Cali Mykonos, relaxation is far from the only option. The Cali team offers a wide array of activities, ensuring your experience is as dynamic as you wish. They have two gorgeous speedboats ready to whisk you away to the island of Delos, a secluded cove, or a renowned beach club. They can also arrange cooking classes (either on-site or nearby), wine tastings, ATV rides, and, of course, a shuttle service to Mykonos Town every evening. I should also mention that the resort features a fantastic gym and will soon unveil a beautiful spa.

Tip #2: Don’t miss the amazing strapatsada for breakfast!

Cali Mykonos also boasts an outstanding culinary scene, appealing to both gourmet connoisseurs and casual diners alike. Traditional Greek flavors are expertly combined with international influences (sushi at sunset, anyone?) to create a fusion that delighted me at every turn. From mouth-watering fresh seafood to Aegean-inspired dishes, there is no shortage of delectable options. In addition to “must-try” local dishes, including some of the best hummus and tzatziki I’ve ever tasted, there are unique offerings like the incredible lentil and avocado salad and the grilled calamari served on a bed of fava bean purée.

Tip #3: If you get the chance, enjoy a cappuccino or one of their fabulous cocktails with Eric, the owner, and learn all about his inspiring vision for Cali. He’s an absolute delight.

One of the most noteworthy aspects of Cali Mykonos, however, is the hospitality. I’ve stayed at my fair share of beautiful hotels with excellent service, but rarely have I experienced the warmth and essence of the place and its people in such a genuine way. A special mention goes to the Mourkakos family, whose vision has made all of this possible. I had the pleasure of meeting the family on my first visit, and I can honestly say that their work ethic and philosophy are reflected in every member of the team. They go above and beyond with a smile, day in and day out, for months at a time (I’ve had the privilege of staying in both May and October, so I’ve witnessed this dedication firsthand).

Tip #4: Each room comes equipped with a yoga mat. Be sure to try it out on your private terrace – it’ll be the best yoga or stretching session you’ve had in a long time.

From a professional travel advisor’s perspective, Cali Mykonos offers the perfect blend of luxury and ease. While it provides all the indulgence one could desire, the resort maintains a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere, ideal for those who wish to unwind and embrace the Greek lifestyle without the pretension that often accompanies high-end resorts. It’s a place where elegance and comfort meet seamlessly.

On a more personal note, there are some places in the world that possess a certain magic – and Cali Mykonos is one of them. I’m completely enchanted by this resort and can’t wait for the opportunity to watch the sunrise from my terrace once again.
